Erasmus Policy Statement

Cremona, fatherland of Monteverdi and Stradivari, has a rich musical tradition and is famous all over the world for its lute manifacturing listed by UNESCO among the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. It is among the few cities in Italy to have a Musicology Faculty. In 2003 the Civic Music School attained such a level that obtained the qualification of HEI under the name of Istituto Musicale Pareggiato, and then Istituto Superiore di Studi Musicali “Claudio Monteverdi”. Since then the Institute has established strong connections with the most important establishments in Cremona, such as Musicology Faculty, Teatro Ponchielli, Walter Stauffer Foundation and agreements with HEIs institutions in Milan, Mantua, Venice, in shared projects as teaching plans and artistic productions. Artistic projects have also been carried out under agreements with Goryeong Music School in Korea. Cremona is also very interesting for its artistic heritage and offers an enriching experience, in a lively cultural underground with an affordable everyday life.

Since Cremona attracts students and youth orchestras from all over the world, the ISSM Claudio Monteverdi usually deals with students from European Countries, from America, Australia and Far East Countries meeting them at the Institute or participating in concerts together.

Many foreign students have studied and are currently attending ISSM Monteverdi’s courses from Japan, Russia, Ukraine, Popular Republic of China, Taiwan.

Thus we believe that to make really improve the Institute it is absolutely necessary to participate in a structured international activity such as Erasmus+ Programme. ISSM Monteverdi needs to collaborate steadily with other HEIs under Erasmus+ Programme to improve the possibilities for students to be more competitive in the world of work, and provide enhancing of the Institute itself.

Having access to Erasmus+ Project will allow us to fulfill European Directives in modernisation and comparison with other european HEIs.

The choice of partner institutions depends on several points: first of all compatibility of courses programme, standards of quality, feasibility of durable partnership and, last but not least, existing relationships between our teaching staff and that of large number of foreign HEIs which leeds easily to mutual trust. In addition to previous relationships and in the aim of internationalisation strategy, the Institute has recently joined the AEC (European Conservatory Association). We expect a great opportunity from this membership: participating in its meetings and activities will give us the chance to know new potential partners, furthermore to deal with several HEIs at the same moment in order to make possible joint ventures. Cremona’s membership in European Mozart Ways (recently renewed, with an outstanding position of the Institute) may also give us a path to follow.

Geographically the aim is to have balanced exchanges with HEIs from different cultures, languages and musical grounds, in order to approach various learning and teaching methodologies and performing praxis in the aim to pursue the modernisation and internationalisation of the Institute.

Students in first and second degrees, teaching and administrative staff will be involved in Erasmus+ Programme with no discrimination as described in Art. 21 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union.

The lnstitution undertakes to respect the following principles:

  • Respect in full the principles of non-discrimination set out in the Programme and ensure equal access and opportunities to mobile participants from all backgrounds.
  • Ensure full recognition for satisfactorily completeci activities of study mobility and, where possible, train­eeships in terms of credits awarded (ECTS or compatible system). Ensure the inclusion of satisfactorily completed study and / or traineeship mobility activities in the final record of student achievements (Diploma Supplement or equivalent).
  • Charge no fees. in the case of credit mobility, to incoming mobile students far tuition, registration, examina­tions or access to laboratory and library facilities.

When Participating in Mobility Activities – Before Mobility

  • Publish and regularly update the course catalogue on the website of the lnstitution well in advance of the mobility periods, so as to be transparent to ali parties and allow mobile students to make welt-informed choices about the courses they will follow.
  • Carry out mobility only within the framework of prior agreements between institutions. These agreements establish the respective roles and responsibilities of the different parties, as well as their commitment to shared quality criteria in the selection. preparation. reception and integration of mobile participants.
  • Ensure that outgoing mobile participants are well prepared far the mobility, including having attained the necessary leve! of linguistic proficiency.
  • Ensure that student and staff mobility far education or training purposes is based on a learning agreement for students and a mobility agreement far staff validated in advance between the home and host institutions or enterprises and the mobile participants.
  • Provide assistance related to obtaining visas, when required. for incoming and outgoing mobile participants.
  • Provide assistance related to obtaining insurance, when required, for incoming and outgoing mobile participants.
  • Provide guidance to incoming mobile participants in finding accommodation.

During Mobility

  • Ensure equal academic treatment and services for home students and staff and incoming mobile participants.
  • Integrate incoming mobile participants into the lnstitution’s everyday life.
  • Have in piace appropriate mentoring and support arrangements far mobile participants.
  • Provide appropriate linguistic support to incoming mobile participants.

After Mobility

  • Accept ali activities indicateci in the learning agreement as counting towards the degree. provided these have been satisfactorily compieteci by the mobile students. +
  • Provide incoming mobile participants and their home institutions with transcripts containing a full. accurate and timely record of their achievements at the end of their mobility period.
  • Support the reintegration of mobile participants and give them the opportunity, upon return. to build on their experiences far the benefit of the lnstitution and their peers.
  • Ensure that staff are given recognition far their teaching and training activities undertaken during the mobility period. based on a mobility agreement.

When Participating in European and lnternational Cooperation Projects 

  • Ensure that cooperation leads to sustainable and balanced outcomes far all partners.
  • Provide relevant support te staff and students participating in these activities.
  • Exploit the results of the projects in a way that will maximise their impact on individuals and participating institutions and encourage peer learning with the wider academic community.

For the Purposes of Visibility 

  • Display this Charter and the related Erasmus Policy Statement prominently on the lnstitution’s website.
  • Promote consistently activities supported by the Programme, along with their results.
